(DE) Dreifache Allianz für das bahnbrechende Patriot-System der Schweizer Armee

Die Unternehmen SMAG Mobile Antenna Masts GmbH (SMAG) mit Sitz in Salzgitter (Deutschland) und RUAG AG (RUAG) mit Sitz in Bern (Schweiz) haben im Rahmen des Beschaffungsprojekts BODLUV GR für das Luft- und Flugkörperabwehrsystem Patriot® der Schweizer Armee eine gemeinsame Lizenzvereinbarung bekannt gegeben. Diese Zusammenarbeit wurde im Rahmen des Offset-Programms durch das in den USA ansässige Unternehmen Raytheon, einem RTX-Unternehmen, ins Leben gerufen und stellt einen Meilenstein in der Entwicklung und Bereitstellung modernster Verteidigungstechnologie dar.

Raytheon, RUAG und SMAG, drei renommierte Akteure der Rüstungsindustrie, arbeiten zusammen und bringen ihr jeweiliges Fachwissen ein, um das Patriot-System für die Schweizer Armee weiterzuentwickeln.

Raytheon hat RUAG mit direkten Offset-Projekten beauftragt, um die notwendigen Fähigkeiten zur autonomen Wartung wichtiger Subsysteme des Patriot-Systems in der Schweiz aufzubauen. RUAG wird unter anderem das Mastsystem entwickeln sowie Komponenten und Baugruppen produzieren und liefern. Im Rahmen dieser separat abgeschlossenen Lizenzvereinbarung autorisiert und ermöglicht SMAG RUAG durch Technologietransfer die Wartung der Systeme während ihrer Lebensdauer. Ein wichtiger Bestandteil des Projekts ist das Fth 25/7-Mastsystem, das als wesentliche Kommunikationsschnittstelle im Gesamtsystem fungieren wird. Das Mastsystem ist Teil des SMAG-Portfolios von Containermastsystemen.

Alle Parteien sind überzeugt, dass diese Zusammenarbeit unmittelbare Vorteile für das BODLUV GR-Projekt bietet und darüber hinaus langfristige positive Auswirkungen auf ihre jeweiligen Organisationen haben wird. Die Synergien zwischen Raytheon, RUAG und SMAG werden zur Entwicklung innovativer Lösungen für die Schweizer Armee beitragen und die nationale Sicherheit weiter stärken.

Fast, Strong and Reliable – New opportunities with new owner

AEQUITA SE & Co. KGaA, a global industrial group and financial investor headquartered in Munich, has reached an agreement with the Executive Board of SMAG to acquire the three companies of Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG (SMAG). The three companies at the Salzgitter site are positioned in the market as technology leaders with a strong brand in their respective fields. They range from the manufacture of bulk material grabs for the global trading industry (PEINER SMAG Lifting Technologies GmbH) to mobile drilling and mining solutions for demanding applications above and below ground (NORDMEYER SMAG Mining & Drilling Technologies GmbH) and the supply of mobile antenna masts for data transmission and communication in the defense and telecommunications sector (SMAG Mobile Antenna Masts GmbH).

The transaction is still subject to the approval of the German Federal Cartel Office and the shareholders.

The new owner AEQUITA has an impressive success story and extensive industry knowledge. The change in ownership provides SMAG Mobile Antenna Masts GmbH with new opportunities for growth and innovation. SMAG Contract signing in Czech Republic ERA 3.Generation

After the successful joint re-development, production and delivery of the container mast generation 1 and 2 the world wide leading German manufacturer of Mobile Antenna Masts, SMAG and the Czech supplier of passive radar systems ERA a.s. signed a supply contract for further container Antenna Mast Systems. The actual order is already the 3rd generation of the container mast from Salzgitter. Wolfgang Schnelle (Managing Director of SMAG): “With this technical solution we sucessfully convinced an existing customer and at the same time we are able to serve a large demand in the market”.

SMAG Contract signing in Poland

SMAG Mobile Antenna Masts receives order to equip Polish Patriot WISLA system with novel lattice mast packages

On 16 Dec. 2021, Wojskowe Zakłady Łączności Nr 1 S.A. (WZL), supplier of next-generation surveillance and flight tracking solutions for the air traffic management, military, security and airport operations markets, located in Zegrze, Poland, and SMAG Mobile Antenna Masts GmbH headquarterd in Salzgitter, Germany, have entered into an agreement to deliver a new kind of mast systems for the Mobile Communications Center (MCC1) of the Polish Patriot WISLA system.

The agreement includes a total of three contracts. Beyond the delivery of mast packages of the the Mobile Communication Centers (MCC1) for the Polish Patriot WISŁA System , SMAG will transfer the required expertise to build mobile lattice antenna masts to WZL. It was also agreed to jointly launch further projects in the domestic market and most importantly in the military business.

Through the above agreements, WZL Nr. 1 and its subtiers will soon be able to gain capabilities regarding project management and production of antenna masts systems. This will allow them to even better meet requirements of Polish Armed Forces heading towards Band IV and a better bit rate through radio and radio relay transmissions for far distances. WZL company will be the first in Poland to start serial production of lattice antenna masts that will be integrated onto Polish Armed Forces’ vehicles.

The managing directors of both parties are very positive about the future. Current projects show a high demand for these innovative mast systems and further orders can be expected.

“We have known WZL for more than 30 years now, who have developed and modified Mobile Digital Communication Nodes (RWL-C) as a sole supplier to Polish MoD and is also known as a provider of satellite communication solutions. This has proven to be a reliable and unique system on the market. Together we will now exploit synergies and develop a new type of mobile mast system that combines the advantages of both installations.

The complete system will be installed on a 10x10 Jelsz truck, hosted on a 20 feet containerframe, which is easy to be transported to any point of mission,“ states Wolfgang Schnelle, SMAG Managing Director. “WZL is pleased to cooperate with such experienced and flexible partner, we really need to differentiate (to link?) our portfolio(s) and we are glad that SMAG components perfectly complement our system,” adds Roman Tetnik, WZL Managing Director.

The new Fth 40/9 Mobile Antenna Mast is available

After only one year of development, SMAG Mobile Antenna Masts (SMAG), headquartered in Salzgitter, launches a new type of guyless 40 m antenna mast. Under the brand name Fth 40/9, the innovative system is about to be introduced on the market. The prototype mast has been handed over to the first customer, who is carrying out further trials in the field. At the same time, the series production has started. The new system builds on the proven, robust quality of the previous mast series, but offers significantly more reach. With a height of up to 40 m, the mast creates real added value for the user and thus meets the increased customer requirements.

The prototype antenna mast type Fth 40/9 has been successfully tested on a Defense Technology Center site (WTD), ensuring reliable operation. „We provide our customers a compact, low-maintenance and weightreduced Mobile Antenna Mast which was previously not available for a mast height of 40m. During the development process many buying criterias were considered. Complemented by our many years of experience and a diversified service profile, we have achieved an outstanding unique selling position on the market and we intend to strengthen it further“, comments Wolfgang Schnelle, Managing Director of SMAG Mobile Antenna Masts GmbH. Despite its enormous height, the mast package is easy to handle and has retained the basic 20-foot dimensions that are important to many buyers. A particular feature is the quick fully automatic assembly of the complete system, which takes only 6 minutes thanks to the novel drive. Depending on demand, the mast can be extended from 10 - 40 m and continiously been operated in intermediate heights. The current mast configuration allows a permissible head load of 600 kg. For several decades, SMAG has been manufacturing the carrier systems known in the industry as "Salzgitter Mast", whose sophisticated technology and high quality standards are appreciated by customers worldwide. The systems can be used in semi- or fully-automatic operation even at high wind speeds and at different mast heights. They require only short set-up and dismantling times, work extremely accurately at the mast top and have high mobility. Whether little space or rough terrain – they are suitable for a wide range of applications in the civil and military sector. Thus, information flows can be ensured and maintained also in the most remote locations and under the most difficult environmental conditions. With the new Fth 40/9 series, SMAG is responding to current market developments and offering its customers another contemporary solution.

Deployable antenna containers for the German Armed Forces - ZNV (Cellular Networks Deployable)

(DE) Beauftragung für die Entwicklung und Lieferung von verlegefähigen Antennencontainern für das Projekt: ZNV (Zellulare Netze Verlegefähig) für die Bundeswehr

Sicher, Robust und Zuverlässig – Neues Digitalisierungsprojekt für die Bundeswehr

Der marktführende Hersteller für abspannfreie Antennenträger, die SMAG Mobile Antenna Masts GmbH (SMAG) aus Salzgitter und die Firma Motorola Solutions Germany GmbH, der Systemlieferant der Bundeswehr für das Projekt ZNV der Bundeswehr, haben einen Vertrag über die Entwicklung und Lieferung von verlegefähigen Antennenträgersystemen unterschrieben. Damit übernimmt die SMAG im Unterauftrag von Motorola Solutions die Entwicklung und Lieferung der Antennencontainer im Rahmen des Programmes Digitalisierung landbasierter Operationen (D-LBO) der Bundeswehr.

Der Vertrag umfasst unter anderem die Integration von Antennen- und Funktechnik in einem 20‘ ISO Container. Bei dem Projekt setzt die SMAG ihr Expertenwissen ein und passt ihre Produkte optimal an die Anforderungen der Bundeswehr an. Der Vertrag beinhaltet die Beschaffung von bis zu 42 entsprechenden Antennenträgersystemen bis zum Jahr 2024.

Im Projekt ZNV – Zellulare Netze Verlegefähig – wird ein Nachfolgesystem für das Bündelfunksystem TetrapolBw entwickelt und produziert. Bei ZNV handelt es sich um ein zellular betriebenes Funksystem das Sprach- und Schmalbanddatenübertragung über den Standard Terrestrial Trunked Radio (TETRA) abwickelt. Die breitbandige Datenübertragung erfolgt über den Standard Long Term Evolution (LTE).

SMAG supports ERA project for the Czech Armed Forces

A contract was signed between ERA company and the Czech Ministry in 1Q 2020 for the supplying of the latest generation of passive surveillance systems VERA-NG for the needs of the Czech Armed Forces. Within the 4Q 2020, ERA has closed the contracting process with the main subcontractors: SMAG Mobile Antenna Masts GmbH (SMAG) will provide the highly mobile masts for VERA-NG antennas. Tatra Trucks company will deliver the transport vehicles, Pavelka company the containers for Main Processing Shelter. The so-called DPET ACR project has been updated as planned, thus successfully overcoming the unprecedented obstacles related to the Covid-19 crisis.

In light of the Covid-19 situation, there is an important added value for the Czech economy thanks to the involvement of Czech companies in the project. Despite the difficulties caused by border closure, the major part of the project is also Czech-German cooperation. “In this phase we finished the contracting process with the main subcontractors: the German company SMAG and the Czech companies PAVELKA – kontejnery, Ltd. and TATRA Trucks, stock co.,” stated the ERA Managing Director Viktor Sotona.

SMAG Mobile Antenna Masts GmbH, a subsidiary of Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG, complements VERA-NG system with eight mobile and collapsible mast systems. The masts are fully automated and after a short installation time ready for any rough terrain mission. This permits maximum mobility, rapid tactical deployment of the DPET system and minimizes risks for Czech soldiers during missions. “We recognise ERA as a high-tech company with remarkable experience in passive radar systems, especially for its unique surveillance and reconnaissance system VERA-NG. We developed together another new mobile antenna mast system, which connects both products in an optimal way.,” stated Wolfgang Schnelle, SMAG Managing Director. This strengthen our both market position, we look forward for a long term relationship with company ERA. SMAG is very glad to be able to support our neighbour and especially the Czech MOD.

SMAG-Beteiligung an wichtigsten Luftverteidigungssystem für die Bundeswehr der kommenden 20 Jahre/Baustein für Unternehmenserfolg und den Wirtschaftsstandort Niedersachsen

Salzgitter/Schrobenhausen, 6. Oktober 2020. Warten auf den Startschuss: In den kommenden Wochen wird in Berlin über den Bundeshaushalt diskutiert. Unter anderem entscheidet der Bundestag darüber, ob das neue „Taktische Luftverteidigungsystem“ (TLVS) als Schutzschirm gegen Bedrohungen aus der Luft angeschafft werden soll. Das Besondere an diesem High-Tech-Projekt für die Bundeswehr ist die Beteiligung von über 80 mittelständischen Unternehmen, ein Großteil davon aus Deutschland. In Niedersachsen hofft die SMAG Mobile Antenna Masts GmbH (SMAM) auf grünes Licht aus der Bundeshauptstadt. SMAG steuert zu dem von einem Joint Venture aus MBDA Deutschland und Lockheed Martin aus den USA geführten Großprojekt Know-how aus Salzgitter bei. Das Spezialgebiet des niedersächsischen Mittelständlers: der sogenannte Salzgitter-Mast, ein mobiler Antennenträger, der auch unter schwierigsten Bedingungen für eine einwandfreie Kommunikation sorgt.

„Wir sind stolz darauf und hoffen, einen wichtigen Teil zur Modernisierung der NATOAbwehrfähigkeiten und damit zum Schutz unserer Soldaten, aber auch der Zivilbevölkerung beizutragen“, sagt Wolfgang Schnelle, Geschäftsführer von SMAG Mobile Antenna Masts GmbH. Die Beteiligung an dem TLVS-Projekt bringt dem Standort Salzgitter Sicherheit und ist ein wichtiger Baustein unserer künftigen Unternehmensplanung.“ Mit Auftragsvergabe werden weitere Kapazitäten im Bereich Engineering und Entwicklung bereitgestellt, so der Unternehmens-Chef. „Der Auftrag ist darüber hinaus eine Chance, Niedersachsen bei internationalen Partnern als HightechStandort zu präsentieren und unser Know-how auszubauen.“

Der Schutzschirm TLVS soll Bedrohungen aus der Luft abwehren, zum Beispiel durch Raketen, Kampfflugzeuge, Hubschrauber, Drohnen und Marschkörper. Aktuelle Abwehrsysteme stoßen bereits heute an ihre Leistungsgrenzen und müssen innerhalb der nächsten zehn Jahre ersetzt werden.

SMAG wird für TLVS einen Rohrmast bauen. Ein Vorläufermodell wird bereits im aktuellen Raketenabwehrsystem Patriot verwendet. Neben vielen Verbesserungen in der Mechanik des Masts wird das System auch mit innovativer Technik aufgewertet. Bei dem Mast handelt es sich um einen abspannfreien, mobilen Antennenträger mit geringem Gewicht und zugleich einer sehr hohen Genauigkeit an der Mastspitze. Das System verfügt über eine hydraulische Abstützung, die das gesamte Fahrzeug in schwierigem Gelände ausnivelliert und den Betrieb des Masts ermöglicht. Moderne, wartungsarme, diagnose- und netzwerkfähige Steuerungselemente kontrollieren die hydraulische Abstützung und den hydraulisch angetriebenen Mast. Der Aufbau erfolgt wie bei allen Mastsystemen der SMAG automatisch, in kürzester Zeit und mit geringstem Personaleinsatz. Die Funktionalität und Robustheit der Masten bewährt sich seit Jahrzehnten bei Katastrophen- und Militäreinsätzen sowie bei Funkübertragungen von Radio- und Fernsehsendern.

MOD of a south african country has placed orders for a number of Mobile Antenna Mast Systems, type FTM 25/6, in favour of the German based company SMAG Mobile Antenna Masts GmbH. Essential for the decision was, beside the specific know-how, also the absolute reliability of the mast systems. The ease of use was another crucial factor for MOD when they considered purchasing the solution from SMAG. It is the first time that SMAG entered into an agreement to deliver its popular systems to this region – and more are to follow. MOD has announced their intention to continue the successful collaboration. The tailor-made antenna masts with a height of up to 40 m do not require any type of guy wires, which is a unique feature worldwide. They have been manufactured in Salzgitter since 1974 and have quickly gained prominence around the world. The systems are installed in more than 50 countries, in operation at military forces for e.g. communication, data transmission, jamming, monitoring, boarder control, as well as at civil customers like telecom, mobile phone companies, radio and TV broadcasting companies.

After successful cooperative development, manufacture and supply of the prototype of the new Mobile Antenna Mast System Ftm 25/6 Medium, the leading German manufacturer of mobile antenna masts and the Czech developer and supplier of passive radar systems ERA a.s. signed a contract about delivery of eight container mast systems in series production today (31.05.2017) at the IDET exbibtion in Brno (CZ). The outlook is positive - there is a great demand for the innovative containerized systems. New further projects are already in progress and both companies are expecting repeat orders.

The objective of this project was to connect both products in an optimal way. R adar and antenna mast work together as one unit. During transport, the whole system is protected and invisibly stored in a military shelter. The Mobile Antenna Masts are manufactured in Salzgitter, Germany, since the beginning of 1974. Over 1900 masts are in successful operation worldwide for military missions like communication, observation, surveillance, as well as for disaster management. State of the art technology permits maximum mobility on rough terrain. The great advantages of the new mast system are high payloads up to 1.2 tons with highest accuracy at the mast point, even at high wind speeds without using any kind of guy wires. The masts are fully automated, operable in intermediate heights and ready for any type of mission after a very short installation time. The unique passive reconnaissance and surveillance system VERA by ERA can be perfectly complemented with the reliable SMAG antenna mast. The new compact mast unit is integrated into a standard 20’-container and ideally supplements the wide range of SMAG Mobile Antenna Masts.
